What Our 4-Star Great Start to Quality Rating Means for Your Family
Choosing child care is one of the biggest decisions a family makes. Michigan's Great Start to Quality system helps families understand program quality. We're proud that Doodle Bugs has achieved Enhancing Quality–Validated, the level Michigan pairs with 4 stars.
What is Great Start to Quality?
Great Start to Quality is Michigan's system for recognizing and strengthening quality in licensed early care and education programs. Programs complete a Self-Reflection on areas like relationships, learning environments, and professional growth.
What "Validated" means
At the validated level, a state Validator reviews the evidence behind a program's Self-Reflection. Families can view the results in the public Program Quality Guide, including areas of strength and goals for continued improvement.
How quality shows up in your child's day
Relationships that build confidence. Warm, responsive interactions help children feel secure enough to explore and ask questions.
Learning with purpose. Thoughtful environments and hands-on experiences give children chances to practice language, problem-solving, and independence.
Support for each child. Inclusive practices recognize children's needs, home languages, family cultures, and different ways of learning.
Educators who keep learning. Ongoing reflection and professional development help teachers strengthen everyday teaching and care.
Quality is a journey
A rating isn't a finish line. We keep working on our improvement goals, and your observations and questions help us understand what your child needs. Ask the Director anytime about our Program Quality Guide and our goals for the year ahead.
